The Globe Artichoke Plant / Cynara Scolymus 'Purple of Romagna' in 1-2L Pot

The globe artichoke is a variety of a species of thistle cultivated as a food. The edible portion of the plant consists of the flower buds before the flowers come into bloom. The budding artichoke flower-head is a cluster of many budding small flowers (an inflorescence), together with many bracts, on an edible base. Once the buds bloom, the structure changes to a coarse, barely edible form.

I have only had the one plant from Beechwood Nurseries, a globe artichoke, it arrived securely packaged with a cane to protect top growth, the plant was nicely potted and had a good well developed root system - no sign of weevil or stagnant compost (common with some mail order nurseries). Delivery within two days of ordering. If the rest of their plants are of a similar quality I would happily recommend Beechwood Nurseries. Keep up the good work Cheers Chris
