Griselinias are evergreen shrubs and trees from New Zealand, only fully hardy in mild seaside gardens, where they can reach 8m (26ft).
This handsome plant has dense foliage, a little less hardy than the species and liable to revert to all-green shoots which should be cut out whenever seen. Inland it is best grown against a warm sheltered wall and covered with fleece for winter protection when temperatures drop below -5C (23F).
