 5 Christmas Berry / Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' 25-30cm Tall in 9cm pots

 

Photinia, or Christmas berry, is a genus of Asian and North American shrubs, which includes a group of evergreen hybrids grown specifically for their colourful young foliage.

 

Most are forms of the garden hybrid P. x fraseri, with glossy dark green adult foliage, and variable red tinted young leaves, especially as they just unfold. 'Red Robin' is one, a choice form with eye-catching juvenile growth the colour of sealing wax, similar to a pieris. This is sometimes caught by late spring frosts, and some shelter is advisable. Plants enjoy a sunny or partially shaded position in moist but well-drained soil.

    I was worried as they were delivered on the hottest day of the year. I unwrapped them straight away, I admit I was worried. But they were packed well, damp and look very healthy.

    I wasn't sure what to expect. This is the first time I have received hedge shrubs through the post. I delayed writing this review to see the health of the shrubs a few weeks later. They have been repotted and we will grow them on prior to planting them to the front of our garden. I have photos available but don't think there is an option to post them with the review. Very pleased.

    Ordered last year 10 red Robin Photinia from this nursery and they arrived so healthy, nice and bushy for small plants and packaged brilliantly. I order another 5 this year, not that the last ones died, a neighbour put weed killer on some of my mature red robin and they died, nice lady! So this is why I ordered 5 more to fill in the holes. They arrived nice and bushy, looked so healthy and inside box always packaged with hay, what a fab idea. Anyway waiting to plant them. I will always use this Nursery, I cannot recommend them highly enough. From ordering to delivery of plants is so effortless. 5 stars all the way :). Thank you so much again
