The Fargesia Nitida ‘Black Pearl’ is a handsome clumping bamboo; it has dark purple, almost black, culms that contrast with the bright green evergreen foliage.The canes do start as green but change to a very deep purple; the growth habit is upright and draping and initially it emerges deep red and straight, but with maturity it darkens, and the foliage becomes more arched.
It is also known as a fountain or umbrella bamboo as it forms an elegant arching shape. It is ideal for year-round screening as it can grow to 3-4m in height and 1.5m, in spread over 20 years.It is ideal for both urban and rural locations alike, as it copes with pollution and some exposure to the elements, an excellent versatile evergreen, this clump-forming purple bamboo is also suitable for growing in a container.
