Product Description

Gala Apple / Malus Domestica 'Gala' Tree 4-5Fft Tall

These are BARE ROOTED plants which can be planted from the end of October until April and will be dispatched as soon as the weather turns cold and they become dormant. The dispatch date depends on the Autumn temperature and varies from year to year.

One of the most widely grown apple varieties in the world, and a mainstay of the supermarket apple selection - not least because it is available year round from northern and southern hemisphere suppliers.

Gala is a cross between Kidd's Orange Red and Golden Delicious - a highly promising start. Bearing in mind that Kidd's Orange Red is the offspring of Cox's Orange Pippin and (Red) Delicious, Gala is effectively a union of three of the world's most important and distinctive apple varieties. Being partially self-fertile, you can get away with not having a pollination partner, though your crop size will suffer a bit. Fiesta is a mid-late season flowerer and can cross pollinate with any tree in the mid or late season categories.

Pollination:

It is partially self-fertile.

For better fruiting plant a compatible partner:

Braeburn, Cornish Aromatic, Discovery, Ellison's Orange, Fiesta, Granny Smith, Grenadier, Howgate Wonder, James Grieve, Katy, Laxton's Superb, Malus Evereste, Malus John Downie, Red Devil, Spartan, Worcester Pearmain

    Brilliant service 3 Fat Pigs!

Posted by Unknown on 26th Oct 2021

The sheer standard of Customer service shown throughout my transaction, was 3FatPigs was peerless! None of the Major UK suppliers I have relied upon in the past have reached your level of performance, indeed they fell dismally short! I received the Gala Tree in perfect order, immaculately 'packed' with the roots and branches carefully folded to avoid damage. My Maternal Family roots are Kilmartin and Doyle and what a joy to actually find 'Irish soil' adhering to the roots! I was delighted to add the silt after an over night 'steeping' to that I had prepared in my fruit Garden. It will remain a pleasure for me in the years ahead to think of that 'little bit of Ireland' in my Garden...

    Gala Apple tree

Posted by RONALD STORR on 1st Nov 2017

It arrived safe and sound wrapped in blue clingfilm and is a very nice specimen indeed. The unwrapping took me a while, but it had certainly protected the tree and helped to protect the environment by not using cardboard.
