'Catawbiense Grandiflorum' is a dense, bushy, evergreen rhododendron. The lustrous, rich-green leaves give the garden year-round colour and structure because their undersides are paler green. Late spring and early summer bring large trusses of mauve blooms with cinnamon throat patterns. This attractive, hardy shrub can be planted in mixed borders and woodland gardens on acidic soils, or it can be grown as a "stand alone" specimen shrub.
