20 Christmas Berry / Photinia fraseri 'Red Robin' 25-30cm Tall in 9cm pots

 

Photinia, or Christmas berry, is a genus of Asian and North American shrubs, which includes a group of evergreen hybrids grown specifically for their colourful young foliage.

 

Most are forms of the garden hybrid P. x fraseri, with glossy dark green adult foliage, and variable red tinted young leaves, especially as they just unfold. 'Red Robin' is one, a choice form with eye-catching juvenile growth the colour of sealing wax, similar to a pieris. This is sometimes caught by late spring frosts, and some shelter is advisable. Plants enjoy a sunny or partially shaded position in moist but well-drained soil.

    The plants arrived in very good time, and packaged very well. They arrived in good condition. I have not planted them out yet (6 days since delivery), but have stood all 40 of them in a tray part filled with water. they are all doing very well. Very pleased.

    The plants are well rooted and sturdy. A few had come out of the pots in transit but that's to be expected and were re-potted with no detriment. One of the cardboard boxes was sodden and the end was lost, although the plants inside were all healthy. I would certainly use these growers again.
