Product Description

50 English or Common Yew / Taxus Baccata Plants 30-40cm Bare-Rooted

These are BARE ROOTED plants which can be planted from the end of October until April and will be dispatched as soon as the weather turns cold and they become dormant. The dispatch date depends on the Autumn temperature and varies from year to year.

This is a dense evergreen which can be clipped into any shape of hedge or topiary. It is slow growing but will live for centuries.

Yew is a native British evergreen, whose wood was once used for making longbows. Young plants are bushy and, if left unclipped, they eventually grow into large trees almost as wide as they are tall. However they are rarely allowed to grow naturally, being a firm favourite for classic style hedges and topiary. The plants withstand quite hard clipping and, if overgrown, can be rejuvenated by cutting them back to the stumps. The are also quite amenable to growing conditions and will grow in any well-drained soil.

    Look healthy, varied sizes

Posted by Unknown on 6th Dec 2021

The delivery was very prompt, packaged in two bundles, which were then made up of further goups tied together. The sizes varied a lot, both of top growth and roots, so I had to sort through to get enough of a similar size for the first hedge. Fortunately I'd ordered extra, as the price was so good and the remainder of extra small and extra large have been potted up for later projects. The smaller plants probaly just make it into the size range advertised, and there are about 10 of those. The remainder are much larger. This makes for a rather uneven planting to start off with, (That's the only reason I've marked it down from 5 stars) although hopefully in a year or two it won't make much difference. I have bought from this company before and find them good value for bare rooted hedging plants.

All 50 were healthy individuals, and larger than described height. Fast postage, would definitely use again. I'm a professional Arboriculturist and am very happy with the trees and at a very competitive price
