Product Description

Opal Plum Tree 4-5ft Tall, Self-Fertile, Tasty & Sweet, Ready to Fruit

These are BARE ROOTED plants which can be planted from the end of October until April and will be dispatched as soon as the weather turns cold and they become dormant. The dispatch date depends on the Autumn temperature and varies from year to year.

Opal plums are deliciously sweet, bite-sized dessert plums with a great colour range, from sunshine yellow to deep purple.

Opal Plums are early cropping plum trees and in a good year you can look forward to the first fruit being ready at the end of July.  Because they are so early, Opal plums mature quite fast. They are self-fertile.Opal Plum is quite happy to bear a heavy crop all by itself. It is also reassuringly regular in the size of harvest each year.

These trees will grow to 10-12ft max.

As with all trees from the prunus family, the leaves will start to appear autumnal and slightly shabby from mid June on wards. This is not a disease, but is mainly due to this years contrasting weather conditions and will not affect the performance of the tree.

Pollination:

It is self-fertile and will produce fruit by itself.

For better fruiting plant a compatible partner:

Cambridge Gage, Czar, Merryweather, Mirabelle de Nancy

Any failure will be mine, I suspect

Posted by Carol on 12th Feb 2022

The tree came quickly and was well packaged. Once out of the packaging it looked very healthy with 6 stems, all undamaged. I've followed the planting guidelines I found online and am quietly optimistic I may see a home-grown plum this year. If it fails dismally I imagine it will be due to my inexperience and incorrect planting (or the kids from next door and their multiple footballs) rather than the tree itself.

    dreams of abundant fruit

Posted by Valerie Avery on 27th Oct 2021

Tree arrived well packaged and with good heathy roots, I planted it as soon as it arrived and twelve days later it is looking absolutely smashing on the terrace in its Terracotta pot. I cannot wait till Spring to see it in all its glory of leaves and blossom and to a wonderful healthy crop of Opal Plums, mmm mmm I can taste the sweetness already. I have always ordered from Beechwood Nursery and they are as good as their words, if it states ready for fruiting that’s exactly what you get, how glorious to buy a fruit tree in the dormant season and Spring arrives and it’s in full flower, now that’s what I call a great gift
