Spartan is a deep marroon-coloured apple with an excellent refreshing sweet flavour. Apple text books often describe the flavour as "vinous" and it can indeed have a wine-like quality, although this is first and foremost a crisp sweet juicy unpretentious apple. Being partially self-fertile, you can get away with not having a pollination partner, though your crop size will suffer a bit. Fiesta is a mid-late season flowerer and can cross pollinate with any tree in the mid or late season categories.

It is partially self-fertile.

For better fruiting plant a compatible partner:

Beauty of Bath, Braeburn, Charles Ross, Cornish Aromatic, Discovery, Egremont Russet, Elstar, Fiesta, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Greensleeves, Grenadier, Howgate Wonder, Idared, Irish Peach, James Grieve, Katy, Laxton's Superb, Lord Lambourne, Malus Evereste, Malus John Downie, Malus John Downie, Red Devil, Reverend W. Wilks, Worcester Pearmain
